FWNA NEWS | Speed Study for Alvarado Drive NE

When Alvarado Drive became a bike boulevard and several stop signs were removed in the neighborhood, concerned neighbors informed the City of Albuquerque about speeding issues between Lomas Blvd. and Copper Ave.

As a result, the City of Albuquerque asked Lee Engineering to evaluate traffic using the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) to determine if the traffic operations on Alvarado Dr. meets the threshold criteria for implementation of traffic calming measures.

The goals of the NTMP are to improve neighborhood traffic safety, preserve neighborhood character and livability, and increase neighborhood involvement. The evaluation’s objective was to use the collected data and the site observations with guidance from the City of Albuquerque.

Between April 14 and April 15, 2021, traffic data was collected over 48-hours using road tube counters to determine traffic volume and moving speed traveling through the corridor. Consequently, Alvarado Drive between Copper Avenue and Lomas Boulevard qualifies for traffic calming measures per guidance from the City of Albuquerque’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.

Fox Memorial Park Adopt-A-Park

The city is looking for a business to adopt the neighborhood park.

Fox Memorial Park

This serene large open park has many trees to provide cool shade with lush green grass to enjoy relaxing or playing. The large playground and basketball court is a wonderful place for children to enjoy. The park is very pet-friendly for dogs on leashes. A great place to visit and enjoy the open grass area with friends and family with sitting benches.

Adopt-a-Park

Community organizations, businesses, and private citizens may adopt a park. The program is flexible enough to allow organizations, business or individuals to choose a location and level of commitment that works best for them, their family, or their staff. The best part—you can adopt a park in your neighborhood!

Contribute directly to the beautification of our City, starting with the area that matters most to you! Volunteering in City of Albuquerque parks is a great way to help our community shine!

Parks can be adopted collaboratively, or by a single family or organization. Families and organizations that adopt a park in-whole (with a minimum commitment of two years) will be recognized with the placement of a sign in the park to recognize and celebrate their contribution.

Parks are a place for everyone to enjoy, and the maintenance of our parks are a place for everyone to pitch in. Even if you don’t commit to adopting a park for two years, you can still sign up here to log the hours you spend doing your part to keep Albuquerque beautiful.

This program provides volunteers with excellent opportunities to gain valuable work experience, make a connection with the community, and meet new people. Plus, you can bring your family and pets to accompany you in your project.
