Some suggest we let FWNA go under to force our community to realize how FWNA important is and then start a new one in the future. Vanessa Baca, director of ONC, said this is risky because out-of-state developers look for lapsed neighborhood associations for their objectional projects, which could reduce property values. City zoning rules require any property adjustment requests (from signs to buildings and the opening of new businesses like liquor stores or cannabis shops) to be sent to active neighborhood association presidents and vice presidents for approval.
FWNA needs a new president. Sharon Lawson stepped down in April 2023. Eric Sutton was elected president for 2023-2024. See the attached minutes draft. Unfortunately, he had to step down in Oct 2023. Therefore, we will need to elect a new president. We need a president who can commit at least one year, in accordance with the bylaw. It would be nice to have someone who could commit to a couple of years for stability.
I you are interested in being our new president, please come to the meeting ready to step up and lead our neighborhood. All candidates will be asked to give a short statement addressing their commitment to the position. We really need a good leader who cares about our community. Please consider this your opportunity to make FWNA the best it can be. We also have two open board seats if you want to help.
Everyone else, please come and vote for our new candidate and board seats. Help us forge a bright future for our neighborhood. And invite your neighbors. We look forward to seeing you!
