Socially distant silent vigil in front of their homes

Please join Fair West Neighborhoods for a Black Lives Matter Vigil to show our solidarity and help keep the momentum for change at the forefront of social consciousness and continue moving toward a more just world.

On Tue, June 30, 2020, from 5 to 8 pm, participants are invited to Fox Memorial Park to obtain a “BLM I Care” paper heart to sign and tie on the fence of the tennis court. We will be distributing tea candles for the following day’s vigil. Neighbors are required to wear masks, and keep a social distance, and bring their own pen. There will be no gathering or speeches.

On the following day, Wed, July 1, 2020, at 7:00 pm, participants will come out of their homes for an 8 minute 46-second socially distant silent vigil by standing, kneeling, lying down, holding a candle, or any other method chosen to offer solidarity with the BLM movement.

After the 8 minute 46-seconds of silence, we ask that the participants Say their Names by reading names, in remembrance, of the black people killed in acts of racial inequality. We encourage participants to research these names and their stories before the event.

Important Information about the 2020 Regular Meeting of the FWNA General Membership

Dear FairWest Neighbors,

It is that time again, time for our Regular Meeting of the FairWest Neighborhood General Membership.

The bylaws, on file at ABQ’s Office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC), state that the Fair West NA is scheduled to have a “Regular Meeting of the FWNA General Membership…annually at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of April unless otherwise ordered by the Board of Directors.” Due to the pandemic, things have changed and the ONC waved the annual meeting and annual reporting requirements for neighborhood associations until March 10, 2021.

At our General meetings, we share accomplishments of the past year and vote for the Board of Directors and Officers.

The bylaws define 11 Board of Directors seats. We currently have 7 board members and 2 provisional members. Tim Newell, a long-time board member and past President, has expressed an interest in stepping down to make way for neighbors waiting to get involved. So, we currently have three empty seats. So, step up, this your opportunity to make Fair West the neighborhood you are proud to live in.

FWNA Officers are the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasure. Katherine Turner has one more year to serve in fulfillment of her duties as President. The Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer would like to leave their positions after year(s) of treasured service. Paul Sanchez, the current Secretary, has expressed an interest in the Vice-President position. Colton Dean, a Board member, has expressed an interest in Treasurer. We have two neighbors who have expressed an interest in Secretary.

Sharon Lawson is the nomination committee chair. If you wish to nominate someone or yourself to serve on the Board or in an officer position, email her at with the nomination, address, contact information, and a brief description of the nominee’s qualifications.

Voting privileges at the general meeting are one vote per membership (household or business.) If the household is also a business, the combination only gets one vote. Register your family or business as a member on

We are not ready to announce how or when we will have the General meeting. The Board of Directors and Officers will discuss this at our next board meeting, June 9, on Zoom. This meeting will be Board only, but if you have questions, concerns, or input, please send them to or

Suggested membership dues are currently $5.00 per regular (household) membership and $15.00 for a business membership. You can pay your membership online through secure credit card PayPal access on the membership page or arrange to give your payment to a board member. If you do the latter, make sure you get a receipt and email or call the President to confirm your payment amount. We foresee that membership dues will rise to $15.00 per household and business membership will rise to $20.00.

Thank you,
Fair West Neighborhood Association Board
