6:10 – Professor Nick Ferenchak:
Professor Ferenchak is a transportation engineer at UNM who is working on a research project to explore how local street design can improve neighborhoods. Dr. Ferenchak is focused on developing sustainable and resilient transportation systems primarily through improved health and safety outcomes.
6:30 – Developer Ahmet Tiryaki:
Mr. Tiryaki recently constructed a multimillion-dollar townhome development in the Fair Heights Neighborhood on the North and the West side of Smith’s on Marble and Alice, respectively. He has been successful in attracting millennials and young families to come and plant roots. Also, Mr. Tiryaki has worked on several infill multifamily developments across the Duke City. During the construction phase of the project, The Fair Heights Neighborhood Association president Patrick Scott said: “His vision is to bring high quality, reasonably affordable, infill development to the area.” The current president, Rober Habiger, stated that the Alvarado Park NA “the APNA..would do the same again. We think it has helped our neighborhoods to have additional housing options.”
In October of last year, Mr. Tiryaki was granted a consolidation of the 7 lots on the South East corner of La Veta Dr. He plans to build a housing project on that lot. Come and find out his plans for our neighborhood. The FWNA development sign on Zia and La Veta were consolidated into one lot in the recently branded Mile-Hi District.
6:50 – Alex Horton:
Many of you may have seen Alex Horton as MC for the Mayor’s State of the City address. If you didn’t see it, go to https://www.cabq.gov/sotc to see the video recording of the event. Alex is the founder and executive director of the international district economic Development Business Incubator focused on growing neighborhood-based businesses with a focus on media.
7:10 – Laura Kuehn, ICPS, NCPS:
Laura Kuehn is the director of the city’s crime prevention program. This program has over 2000 neighborhoods in Albuquerque participating in the program. It has been a long-time desire by many of our neighbors to have an active neighborhood watch program. Laura can help us or organize our neighborhood on a block-by-block basis. Laura will give us information about how you can be a host for a Neighborhood Watch on your block.
7:30 – Angelo Metzgar, ONC Manager:
The office of Neighborhood Coordination (ONC) will discuss what the ONC is and how they help to create a vibrant and thriving neighborhood in the City of Albuquerque.
7:50 – Louis Head, Partnership Specialist US Census Bureau
Mr. Head will give a presentation on the importance of an accurate 2020 Census count and the implication of an accurate count. Please come and find out how you can help NM get all the benefits it deserves for our community.
